RESEARCH PRE-CONFERENCE
25 June, Saturday, 26 June, Sunday 2011

Theme: Authentic Assessment in Art Education: New Media, Models, and Tools

Art education is about creation, meaning making and sharing experiences through and about art. Evaluation of results should also serve these purposes: inspire, interpret and improve performance. The Research Pre-Conference of the 2011 InSEA Congress invites presentations about research on authentic and reliable methods of assessment and evaluation of students’ and adult learners’ performance, quality, use as well as cultural, social and individual value of arts projects, methods and themes. This conference could have been termed “evaluation beyond testing”, but it seems more appropriate, quoting one of the speakers, to focus our efforts on developmental assessment. (Schönau, 2010)

MAIN CONGRESS
27 June, Monday, 30 June, Thursday 2011

“ART – SPACE - EDUCATION”

Art education has long gone beyond schools or even lifelong education environments. It penetrates all areas of life, where visual design, creation, communication and perception is a dominant activity. During the Budapest congress, members of InSEA are invited to enter a series of art spaces: contexts where visual culture is relevant, visual communication is dominant, where art sets the stage and the context is defined by the hands of the creator or the eyes of the beholder. We invite contribution in a variety of forms: themed sessions, roundtables, individual presentations, posters, exhibitions, workshops and online activities: e-seminars, discussions and workshops on internet based co-construction of knowledge about art spaces in the following themes:

Zánka Zánka

Lake Balaton, in the Transdanubian region of Hungary, is the largest lake in Central Europe and one of its foremost tourist destinations. As Hungary is landlocked, it is often affectionately called the "Hungarian Sea". The Zala River provides the largest inflow of water to the lake and the canalized Sió is the only outflow. The mountainous region of the Northern shore is known as a major wine region, while the flat Southern shore is known for its resort towns.

Zánka

The most characteristic part of the Balaton Uplands was granted protection - perhaps at the last moment - when a protected landscape area in the Káli Basin was established in 1984 on an area of 9,111 hectares. Several basalt cones emerge from the level of the basin (Hegyestű, Kis-Hegyestű, Lapos-Hegyestű, Kereki Hill etc.). In the middle of the basin, dolomite and limestone ridges cross wetlands and surround the 15-hectare-large Kornyi Lake. The block fields near Salföld, Kővágóörs and Szentbékkálla, where millstones were cut and carved for hundreds of years, are geological values famous throughout Europe. The most beautiful is the rocky ridge of Szentbékkálla, which has survived almost intactuntil the present day.

During our tour we visit the Sea of stones at Szentbékkálla and the basalt coloumns of Hegyestű volcanic mountain. Lunch is served in the traditional Koloska Inn (called Csárda in Hungarian) near Csopak. The Koloska Valley itself is a fine hiking route. It is a magnificent experience to have lunch in the middle of the woods under the open sky.

After lunch we visit the International Child Art Collection in Zánka. http://www.zanka.hu/
The Zanka Children and Youth Centre covers a surface of 209 hectares in the picturesque environment of Balaton Highlands rich in natural and historical resources, int he vicinity of well-known, tourist attractions, e.g. the Kali-Basin, the Valle of Arts, Tihany, and the Badacsony hills. The Gallery of Children’s Art in Zánka was figured out and founded by a Hungarian painter, Elek Bernáth n 1973. Since then we have announced our fine and applied arts competitions for children every year and besides collecting their artworks we are committed in caring these young talents. We have 20 000 pieces of children’s artworks arrived from110 countries. This collection is unique in Europe and being a wonderful treasury of the imagination of the children in the world it provides rich material for experts and educators researching visual development. The collection and its exhibition will be presented by Ms Kinga Bene, the head of the Gallery. On the spot you can visit sport resort, Adventure Park, Military Park, harbour, Balaton beach, and so on.

Kecskemét

Kecskemét was established in the 14th century. Churches of different religions and the Art Nouveau town hall and museum marks its centre. In the 1970s, an art colony was established here with international studios for ceramics, enamel and animation film. Zoltán Kodály established his first music school here, and the town is also home to the International Kodály institute, the centre for the world famous music education system.
